<description descriptionType="Abstract">Gas-diffusion electrodes (GDEs) modified with a CO₂-philic ionic liquid, [EMIM][BF₄], embedded in a PIM-1 interlayer increase local CO₂ at Ag/Cu catalysts and tolerate impure feeds (N₂/O₂/CO₂ mixture), enabling flue-gas operation without costly purification. Our recent study and ex-situ Raman indicate a specific CO₂–IL interaction. This beamline campaign will (1) provide direct, operando evidence of the role of solid-state [EMIM][BF₄] within PIM-1 and (2) quantify its impact on stability via flooding suppression. We will use GIWAXS (phase/strain; salt/bicarbonate deposits; flooding conditions) under biased, impure-feed conditions, and if possible/needed, XRF to track salt formation (Cs+, K+ ions). Expected outcome: confirmation that the PIM-1+[EMIM][BF₄] layer containing IL, concentrates CO₂, delays water invasion, limits precipitates, and extends steady CO/syngas production on impure streams.</description>
