<description descriptionType="Abstract">Graphite is an extensively investigated material within battery research, and it is still considered the benchmark anode for Li-ion batteries (LIBs) ever since its first commercialization, over 30 years ago. However, its application in Na-ion batteries (NIBs) remains limited due to its poor intercalation properties to form a binary graphite intercalation compounds (b-GIC) of NaCx composition. More recently an approach to circumvent this issue was demonstrated, that is to intercalate solvated alkali metals to form ternary graphite intercalation compounds (t-GIC) known as “co-intercalation” phenomenon. With this work we aim to explore this phenomenon with high time resolution to understand in detail what are the stage structures and stacking sequences of graphite during co-intercalation with different alkali metal ions and solvents.</description>
