Zr-based MAX phase carbides are unique candidates for nuclear fuel cladding applications. Improving the knowledge of their physical properties and their evolution in harsh conditions is key for developing such applications. We are the only group growing single crystals of Zr3SnC2 and Zr2SnC, and we can use Xe-based Focused Ion Beam to tailor crystal dimensions and orientation at will. We will assess the dependence of the electronic and bonding properties of Zr and Sn under pressure up to 30GPa, through the measurement of X-Ray linear dichroism absorption (XLD) and single crystal X-Ray diffraction (scXRD) as a function of p up to 30GPa and temperature up to 800°C.
